Resources

The Artist Book community have been welcoming, friendly and generous. I hope to gradually add resources to this section of my website so that I can model the same values.

Sit yourself down with the beverage of your choice and see if anything here makes your creative juices flow.

Ideas for Blocked Artists

Set a timer for five minutes and sketch what is in front of you.

Gather a collection of stones and sketch them.  If the mood takes you, turn them into creatures.

MOTH HOPE SHADOW Draw what these words represent to you today.

Combine an owl and a penguin to create a new creature.

Describe a traveller who collects unusual objects.  What do they look like and what are they carrying? Sketch a couple of the objects they have discovered.

Describe a landscape where two very different eco systems meet.  For example, a jungle and a desert or a beach and a city.

How might you visually represent the taste of your favourite food?  What colours might appear?  Does it feel static or filled with movement?  Neat lines or bold flowing strokes?

Go through your junk mail or paper recycling.  What colours, textures or patterns call to you?  Can you combine them to create a collage.  Abstract or figurative, small or large, flat or with folds and creases to create 3D effects.

Create a series of loose watercolours.  When dry embellish with ink, acrylic or oils to give literal and imaginative layers of meaning.
